Riversands Winery
RIVERSAND Wines will again be at Ag-Grow QMIX, and will host a “Meet and Greet” for all exhibitors at the Nutrimetics/ Sponsors Rest Marquee situated behind the administration block on Thursday, July, 9, from 5 to 6pm.
According to David Blacket of Riversand this is something the winery has done for a number of years.
“This is a great opportunity to all exhibitors to mingle and network after a busy first day at the field day,” David said.
David and Alison Blacket bought Riversands Vineyards in 1996.
Since then, they have created the vineyard into a welcoming country place for visitors to enjoy.
Their cellar is a special place where you can relax and be entertained whilst hearing the stories of the men and women who shaped the district.
Riversands is located on the banks of the Balonne River at St George in South-West Queensland.
Wine buffs can select from their famous fortified wines or range of crisp fruity red and white table wines.
Golden Liqueur Muscat is their flagship, but their sweet and dry table wines are also popular.
As well they have fruity styles, which are well suited to Asian and Mediterranean foods.
Wine grapes were first grown at Riversands in 1992, and many hours of blood, sweat and tears, and development has been invested in the vineyard since then to bring it up to the thriving business that it is today.
Riversands Vineyard consists of 40ha, with 17ha of vines (20,000 vines) stretching along 40 km of trellis.
Of these, one third is wine grapes and the balance table grapes.
The hot climate, drip irrigation and well drained soils allow vines to thrive and produce wines of high sugar and fruity flavour.
Table grape picking starts in December. Boxes of Menindee and Flame Seedless grapes are sold through Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane markets.
Wine grape varieties such as Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Semillon, Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon, Ruby Cabernet, Jacquez, Merlot and Aleatico are hand picked from January through to March.
The chilled grapes are transported in bins to Ballandean Estate near Stanthorpe for processing.
Our talented winemaker at Ballandean Estate is Dylan Rhymer.
