Good season will give quality store cattle

WITH the Central Highlands experiencing a tremendous season until recently when cold weather and isolated frosts made some pastures patchy in places, the Ag-Grow Super Store Cattle Show and Sale is expecting up to 800 head.

That is according to the organiser of the event, Tim Maguire of Maguires Real Estate and Livestock at Emerald.

“We expect to yard some quality cattle, and we expect the market to be solid, as it normally kicks upwards in the month of July,” Mr Maguire said.

“We are expecting a strong buying panel from both the grass-fed and grain fed finishers as well as feedlot operators.

The judging will start at 8am sharp on Friday, July 10, followed by the sale at 9am.

The cattle will be judged in three categories:

There is a class for steers under 300kg, and a class for steers over 300kg, and heifers suitable for the feedlot trade.

The event is sponsored by Rabobank who has earmarked $800 for the first place in each class, while second place will receive $500 courtesy of Ag-Grow QMIX, and third place will receive a product voucher to the value of $250 sponsored by the selling agent Maguires Real Estate and Livestock.

RITE are the sponsors of the Store Cattle Sale Complex.
